On February 16, 2025, organist John Dixon, from Norfolk, Virginia, presented a program of his own compositions. This program includes a number of pieces based on folk songs from the British Isles and the United States and on traditional hymn tunes, along with a number of pieces in in traditional organ forms and styles.
Of special note is one of Dixon’s newer compositions, Four New Mexico Folk Songs, which will be played in its World Premiere Performance as part of the program. This composition is based on four folk tunes (Yo No Me Quiero Casar, El Señor Don Gato, Los Diez Mandamientos, and Don Simón), selected from hundreds of tunes collected by Professor and ethnomusicologist John Donald Robb and his wife during the 1940s and early 1950s.
